On 3rd May Gateway and Dr Shelley Stiles were pleased to present at the 2022 Rail Safety Conference for RISSB in Melbourne, Australia. The conference theme was ‘Safety Climate and Climate Safety.’ Dr Shelley presented a recent study for a tool that evaluates safety culture maturity for multi- stakeholder organisations, such as those delivering rail infrastructure projects. This work is being undertaken with support from Dr David Golightly from the University of Newcastle. We have received positive feedback from the presentation, and the engagement from the audience was great with some interesting questions! Including ‘what is the role of ministers and clients in creating a positive safety culture on their projects?’, ‘Complacency is a key challenge, how can this tool help projects to mitigate complacency in safety performance?’. As you can see from the photos Shelley was presenting virtually this year, but is hoping to be able to attend in person at future events! We hope the whole team can come along too!
