Recently one of our Directors, Dr Shelley Stiles, has been supporting her local scout group developing their approach to risk assessment. As well as the recent risk assessment briefings that Shelley held with their leaders, young leaders and volunteers, there has been a review and update of the risk assessment policy and practices. The updated policy provides greater clarity on responsibilities which has been well received by the group as they have become more aware of how to use risk assessment as a tool for planning and delivering great sessions across the age groups: Scouts, Cubs and Beavers (6 to 14 year olds).

Shelley says “I believe the approach to risk assessment adopted by the Scouts as an organisation is spot on. This statement from their website sums up why building a positive attitude to risk within future generations is essential. I am proud to have been able to do my bit and help my local community in this regard.”
