Course overview

The two areas of focus within this module are to recognise the personal health impacts of common site activities and the importance of adopting risk control measures to prevent exposure to health hazards, specifically noise.

And secondly, individual behaviours that contribute to having a positive attitude to health as well as safety.  A common behavioural factor in poor adherence to health-related protection measures is poor risk perception.  In the moment it is easy for us to all forget the potential long-term harm we can cause our bodies, when we are task focussed, under pressure and complacent.

The aims include:

  • Health is as important as safety
  • Individuals to recognise the potential long-term harm from incremental hearing damage
  • The importance of eliminating health hazards from design throughout the project lifecycle and where this is not possible to follow the general principles of prevention (with PPE the last resort)
  • Impacts of complacency towards everyday tasks and health protection
  • The importance of challenging unacceptable standards and behaviours
  • Small actions adding up to large long-term consequences
  • Appreciation of the impact that noise induced hearing loss can have at work a well as personal lives

The difference between active and passive hearing protection can also be explored.

For classroom training there is a maximum of 8 delegates per session.
