Course overview
This module is a reconstruction of an accident where an individual is run over by a reversing excavator. There are two underlying factors throughout the film; pressure to deliver and complacency of the hazards and risks associated with the task.
There are also a number of latent failures featured along the way and the responsibilities for these will span both management and operatives. The aims are to get the attendees to recognise:
- The correct procedure for working around mobile plant, including:

- Challenging the need for people working in close proximity to plant
- Establishing exclusion zones
- Use of technology to support the implementation of the exclusion zone
- The role of the banksman
- Planned communication methods between plant operator and pedestrians
- Safe places to stand around plant
- How should passers-by approach

- The limitation of plant operator visibility and identifying the blind spots
- Plus their role in improving safety on site, the importance of being aware of changes to work activity/environment which introduce additional hazards and risks, the impact of pressure on individual behaviour and the importance of reporting concerns to management
For classroom training there is a maximum of 8 delegates per session.
